Health and Safety - Glasses

Over the years we have set up in many Halls, Gardens, and at Community Events.

When we set up at a private event we always make sure we talk to the customer about the “Dos and Don'ts”.

Our standard confirmation email has safety notices at the bottom of the page. These notices an be printed off and placed near the Bouncy Castle, (not to be attached to the Bouncy Castle as this may damage the artwork on the Bouncy Castle)

One of the trickier subjects to talk about is Glasses.

Glasses must be taken off before the person can go on the Bouncy Castle.

If we are booked at a Community Event, we are normally there to supervise the inflatables and the children using the Bouncy Castle. Sometimes the organisers are happy to have their own people supervise the inflatables.

We will not allow anyone on the castle wearing Glasses.

Whilst at one event, a parent was very vocal in complaining that his daughter wasn’t allowed on the Bouncy Castle. He said that she had to have her Glasses on to see and that we were discriminating against her.

We explained to him the many reasons we couldn’t let her on whilst wearing Glasses. They include;

She could accidentally bounce into the side of the Bouncy Castle and dislodge the glasses into her face, causing serious injury.

Another child could accidentally bounce into her, causing the Glasses to smash, causing injury to both children.

The Glasses could fall off whilst the child is on the Bouncy Castle and another child might tread on them causing injury.

The parent did eventually understand our  point of view and why we couldn’t let her on.
